Why You May Need To Rethink Your Quest for Improvement ...

?

We hear constant messages of self-help, self-improvement, personal, and professional growth, career advancement, etc., etc. We must get better and better and better? I spend a lot of time thinking about and discussing strategies for improvement regularly myself, both on this blog and in my personal life.

But, how do we know when we?re taking improvement too far? What if we?re actually doing fine? We?d probably never notice. We?re too busy picking apart the different aspects of our lives, looking for what?s wrong. Where are we not good enough? Where do we not measure up? What is wrong with us? We must be doing something wrong. That?s what society tells us, so it must be true. Uh? we might want to rethink that.

I?d be the first one to argue, that there?s nothing wrong with trying to be better, do better. Guilty! There?s a certain pride in striving to do better and better. The problem is what started out as setting healthy, productive, goals for success and personal well-being has now spiraled into an obsession with constant improvement. The danger in that mindset is that nothing is ever good enough. We?re not good enough. We?re not productive enough. We?re not happy enough. We?re not successful enough.

The dichotomy of our quest for self-improvement is that while we?re busy looking for ways to get better, we often fail to bask in the sunshine of ?perfectly fine.?

Before you get back on the treadmill to the land of improvement, take a little time to rethink where your quest is really taking you and if you even need to go there.
