In case you were wondering, female mixed martial arts is still very much alive and kicking.? The latest installment of the Invicta Fighting Championships is this Saturday night, and in August, Strikeforce returns to Showtime with a main event that will feature champ Ronda Rousey attempting to remove challenger Sarah Kaufman's arm in the most painful, non-surgical way possible.? Yep.? Wimmins.? They be fightin'.? So in the spirit of all this impending violence perpetrated by the fairer sex, Cagewriter tracked down 125-pound female fighter Munah Holland, who knocked out Strikeforce veteran Carina Damm two weeks ago at Matrix Fights (a regional show in Philadelphia) to get her perspective on things.? She is, after all, on the front lines.
Things to know about Holland: she's a product of the Tiger Schulmann MMA system, and manages one of the organization's gyms in New Jersey.? In 2004, she won the prestigious Golden Gloves amateur boxing tournament, transitioned to professional fighting with Chuck Norris' ill-fated kickboxing promotion the World Combat League, and now fights in the cage, shimmying out of the clutches of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belts and feeding them knuckles until they fall.? ?In her MMA debut, Holland brutalized Kim Couture for three rounds; more recently, she's KO'd top New England fighter Marianna Kheyfets in Bellator and put away Damm.
That's Holland.? Here's what she had to say about some of her fellow fighters:
On Strikeforce bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey - "Ronda is, I would say, this deliciously deadly, amazing person.? She has something that, when I watch her fight, is incredibly contained, and at the same time, explosive.? It's really fun to watch, and her ground game is sick.? She is definitely a force to be reckoned with, no matter her opponent in front of her.? I can't wait for the upcoming fight between her and Sarah Kaufman ? I think that's going to be a great fight."
On top Strikeforce bantamweight challenger and former champ Sarah Kaufman - "I've watched Sarah for a long time, because as a female martial artist, she was one of the girls I knew about first.? She's got really, really powerful hands ? like, lead in her hands.? She's very dangerous.? She's constantly evolving? got a lot of heart, and like Ronda, she's a force to be reckoned with.? And Sarah has some very good wrestling, so it's going to be interesting, because if Sarah can maintain her wrestling defense and use her hands and use her range, it could be a really interesting fight.? If it stays standing, Sarah can do some damage with her hands.? We haven't really seen Ronda's chin, we don't know how much damage it can take."? Her prediction for the August 18 Strikeforce title fight?? "If it stays standing, Sarah's going to have the advantage.? If it goes to the ground, my gut says Ronda."
On former Strikeforce bantamweight champ Miesha Tate - "I love Miesha.? I once said this out loud and people heard me, but if you have a bum that looks like Miesha's, you've got to plaster it everywhere.? She's beautiful, she's tough as nails.? And that fight with Ronda, that was sick."
On former Strikeforce featherweight champ Gina Carano - "Gina, I think, has done a world of good for female fighting in general.? She's chosen her own path, and gone the way she feels where her future lies.? You have to do whatever it is you have to do in this world to have a life and a good living, but I thank her for exposing female martial artists to the world, and making it important for people to watch and making it exciting for people to watch, and proving that, regardless of whether it's females or males, it's just a great sport to watch.? She proved that the numbers can be there, that the seats can be filled for female mixed martial artists just as they can for men."
On former Strikeforce featherweight champ Cris "Cyborg" Santos ? "Cyborg would scare most grown men away in the cage.? The first time I saw Cris Cyborg, I was like, 'Uh, this woman is just frightening.'? And frightening in a good way.? What a beast.? What a beast of mass proportions.? This girl? frightening strength, amazing ability coming from Chute Boxe, can really take so much.? She's just like a pitbull.? She's just going to keep on coming and keep on coming."
On female MMA pioneer Tara LaRosa - "Long before Gina or Cyborg came into the picture, you'd hear about Tara just making her way through one person after another in the circuit ? especially in New Jersey, where she's got a lot of fans.? For me, she was definitely an inspiration.? We can do it, we can do it really well and with a lot of class."
On hoping to fight in the UFC one day - "Oh yeah.? Some little girls want to grow up and wear pink slippers, but for me, the thought of being in the UFC?? I hope it gets to that point for women, I hope it gets to that point in my MMA lifetime.? We can only hope for that.? Who wouldn't want to be in that arena?"
On Dana White reconsidering his stance on not allowing women in the UFC's Octagon - "I don't know any woman who wouldn't want to see women in the UFC, and I hope Dana White considers that at some point.? Because we'll bring the crowds, we'll fill the seats, and people really enjoy watching it."
Jim Genia tweets here and wrote this book.? So what?
ScienceDaily (July 27, 2012) ? Researchers at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center have identified a compound that could interrupt the chain of events that cause damage to the retina in diabetic retinopathy. The finding is significant because it could lead to a novel therapy that targets two mechanisms at the root of the disease: inflammation and the weakening of the blood barrier that protects the retina.
To date, treatments for diabetic retinopathy, the leading cause of blindness among working-age Americans, have been aimed largely at one of those mechanisms.
In diabetic retinopathy, damage to the retina results, in part, from the activity of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a protein that weakens the protective blood-retinal barrier. Recent drugs targeting VEGF have exhibited good response for nearly half of the patients with diabetic retinopathy. But researchers believe that there is also an inflammatory component that may contribute to the disease process.
The study, published in the Biochemical Journal, June 2012 [epub ahead of print] identifies a specific protein common to both pathways as an important target in regulating the disease process in which blood vessels become leaky, and provides a drug that may be developed into a therapeutic intervention for patients in which anti-VEGF treatment alone is not sufficient.
"In diabetic retinopathy and a host of other retinal diseases, increases in VEGF and inflammatory factors -- some of the same factors that contribute to the response to an infection -- cause blood vessels in the eye to leak which, in turn, results in a buildup of fluid in the neural tissue of the retina," says David A. Antonetti, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and Molecular and Integrative Physiology, who has also been awarded a Jules and Doris Stein Professorship from Research to Prevent Blindness. "This insidious form of modified inflammation can eventually lead to blindness."
The compound targets atypical protein kinase C (aPKC), required for VEGF to make blood vessels leak. Moreover, Antonetti's laboratory has demonstrated that the compound is effective at blocking damage from tumor necrosis factor also elevated in diabetic retinopathy that comprises part of the inflammation. Benefits of this compound could extend to therapies for uveitis, or changes to the brain blood vessels in the presence of brain tumors or stroke.
"This is a great leap forward," says Antonetti. "We've identified an important target in regulating blood vessel leakage in the eye and we have a therapy that works in animal models. Our research is in the early stages of development. We still have a long way to go to demonstrate effectiveness of this compound in humans to create a new therapy but the results are very promising."

Before we discuss the asthma inhaler, I?ll provide you with first within the asthma disease first. The term of asthma inhaler spacer comes from the Greek so this means ?hard to breathe.? Asthma is known belonging to the warning signs of breathlessness, coughing and wheezing that is usually attributable to airway constriction. There are a variety of cases of asthma that are located in society which aren?t diagnosed well. People who were diagnosed to have problems with asthma perhaps don?t necessarily get good treatment too until today. Let alone the price tag on treatment, absence during the school or work, disruption of social activities as well as the influence of pain on people in connection with asthma sufferers. Asthma is most prevalent in kids and potentially interfere with the children?s growth itself. Allergies make a difference to all organs and performs from the body without exception. Asthma is actually an illness that has lots of causes, which have been quite often caused by allergy factors. Causal factors and triggers of asthma include dust in your home, animal dander, cigarettes, smoke coils, as well as the others.
Asthma is just not curable and the drugs that you may possibly find today only work to relieve the symptoms. However, with asthma control, asthma sufferers is usually totally free of asthma symptoms that interfere so that you can undergo day to day living activities. Given the many risks that may play a role, then that priority procedure of asthma has thus far aimed toward controlling symptoms. Good control is expected to circumvent the occurrence of exacerbations, normalize lung function, obtaining a good social activity and improve quality of life of patients. In such a modern era in the places you may find a great deal of patients of asthma around the world, it have already been seen that the power of using asthma inhaler to cure the asthma symptoms. Such type of inhaler drug works more potent as opposed to the drug which happens to be ingested. You will find two types of drugs familiar with treat asthma. Namely asthma drug that functions as an anti-inflammatory and asthma medications which only serve to relieve breathlessness till the difficulty in breathing disappear.
- primary controller asthma inhaler involves corticosteroids in nominal doses. It should be used daily to conquer the soreness within your respiratory system, making sure that disturbances inside lungs and respiratory system do not deteriorate from the asthma. Using of such an asthma inhaler in the long time helps to reduce or perhaps eliminate the indication of asthma. You should remember, this drug can?t be employed to cure asthma attacks. - Drug reliever asthma inhaler working as a short-term helper to dilate the respiratory tract, not until the prevailing emergency asthma relapse. However, it is really not suitable for continuous usage simply because the usage in the long run can cause heart rhythm disturbances, tremor of your fingers, and may also aggravate asthma.
Drug reliever prescription medication is not the key medication, but only like a rescuer. As opposed, the primary controller medication is truly the drug of asthma, whilst the effect is not immediate. But many of the patients of asthma include misconception regarding it. The best ways is using both kinds of drugs, namely anti-inflammatory and anti lack of breath. The issue, many patients will not comply with the principles of such treatment. Finally, today some scientist have successfully formulated one sort of asthma drug therapy that combines each of the function a single asthma inhaler. The achievements of drug inhaler formulation is supposed to simplify the process. To ensure that patients only have to don?t use anything but one type of inhaler medication to accomplish effective management of asthma. In order that it may boost the daily life for people with asthma. You must as well are interested in asthma inhaler now? I think you will have known and understand much about asthma inhaler when you finally ought to see this article. You will understand how to purchase asthma inhaler now.

The hands-down winner in the gee-whiz category is the Akoya, a light sport airplane by French manufacturer Lisa Airplanes. With an engine mounted high atop the tail, finlike hydrofoils, and retractable gear that combines ski and wheel, the Akoya can take off and land on three types of surface: land, water, and snow.
We may be comfortable in our four-door electric hatchbacks and screaming fast no-emission roadsters, but Danish automotive outfit ECOmove has more conservative aspirations: the QBEAK. This dainty driver eschews standard vehicle design to create a compact, customizable package. "We have chosen to use alternative light weight materials, "explains ECOmove CEO Mogens Løkke. "The QBEAK is equipped with a range of sustainable, competitive features such as in-wheel motors, an unique chassis platform with room for a flexible battery modules and a communication system based on a smartphone." Details on smartphone compatibility, price and specific availability are still scarce, but the firm says we can expect to see the tiny EV puttering down the boulevard later this year. Can't wait? Head on past the break for a quirky preview video.
Have you had to repair a wet basement more than once? Then it just might be time to call in the professionals. Most of the do-it-yourself waterproofing techniques as promising as they sound are sadly ineffective. Some of the common mistakes people make include using waterproof paint over existing paint-it will not work.
It takes an expert to be able to quickly pinpoint what the source of your water problem is and know exactly how to handle it. So, with the wide range of waterproofing companies available, how do you make the right choice?
1. A good waterproofing company has a license
The waterproofing company you go for must be properly licensed. This will give you some assurance that they have at least a certain minimum quality requirement and cannot just disappear with your money having done little or no work.
It will also help you if in bringing action against the company if you discover later that the quality of service provided is below that expected.
2. A good waterproofing company is cost effective.
As with any other household expense, price is very important. Cheaper does not always translate to better, but make sure you are not being conned either. Weigh the work to be done against the estimates given and select the company that gives you value for your money.
3. A good waterproofing company can give references
Ask the company to give you references- customers who have hired their services before. This is useful in two ways. The reaction of the company to your request will speak volumes about their customer relations. In addition, it is only a person who has had contact with the company that can tell you some things about them such as whether the workers are friendly, how respectfully they will treat your home and whether they finish the work on time
4.
A good waterproofing company lives long
This may not be a very reliable guide but it is usually assumed that a company that has survived long in the service industry is one that satisfies its customers. This does not mean that you cannot try out newer companies; they may also have their advantages especially when it comes to using modern techniques.
5. A good waterproofing company inspects before giving estimates
A good waterproofing company will always inspect your house before giving an estimate. They will need to check for the source of water, assess the construction of the basement and determine the extent of the water problem before they can figure out the amount of repair work that needs to be done and thus calculate how much it will cost.
6. A good waterproofing company is sufficiently equipped
The company you should choose is that which has all the equipment needed to do the job no matter how complicated it is. The company should also have experience and expert knowledge in modern techniques of waterproofing. A company that can offer only the conventional methods just will not do.

Mortgage interest rates hit a new record low last week, and they appear to be on the same trajectory this week.
The yield on the ten-year Treasury notetouched a new low Monday, 1.396 percent, before coming up slightly, and mortgage rates track that yield. Money flooded into Treasuries amid new concern surrounding debt in Greece and Spain.
?Now it?s like 1.4 [percent] is commonplace, and we?re probably going to see one and a quarter before too long,? said Holly Liss, ABN Amro?s Global Future?s Director in an interview on CNBC?s ?Squawk on the Street.?
Mortgage rates are a full percentage point below where they were one year ago, and that recently sparked yet another spike in mortgage refinance applications, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. It did not, however, do the same for applications to purchase a home.
?If the 30 year fixed were to drop to 3 percent, that would open up yet another wave of refi?s, perhaps more than the industry can handle,? says mortgage lender Craig Strent of Rockville, Maryland-based Apex Home Loans. ?Certainly a 3 percent 30-year fixed would make home buying more affordable for some people that may not qualify at 3.5 percent, but if people are not entering the market at 3.5 percent, which is already insanely low, then they may not enter at 3 percent, as they may simply prefer to rent or may not have the down payment needed to buy.?
Strent is reluctant to predict where the 30-year fixed will end up, but Dan Green, loan officer and mortgage blogger with Waterstone Mortgage in Cincinnati expects the rate to hit 3 percent.
?There?s a case for them to be at 3 percent now. It?s just that lenders are overworked with new applications, so there?s little reason to get price competitive,? says Green. He agrees that 3 percent would just push more borrowers to refinance, even if they already did so recently.
Despite a spring surge in home buying this year, especially in new construction, these lower rates should make the surge bigger and continue it throughout the summer, but that does not appear to be the case. The National Association of Realtors reported a surprise drop in home sales in June, due to low inventory on the low end of the market, which is not as dependent on mortgage rates.
While the housing market needs more home purchases, the overall economy would get a boost from a new surge in refinances, giving more Americans more spending power. Remember, however, those rock-bottom rates don?t apply to homeowners cashing equity out of their homes.

Vanderbilt-led team to develop 'microbrain' to improve drug testingPublic release date: 24-Jul-2012 [ | E-mail | Share ]

Part of major $70 million Tissue Chip for Drug Testing program
Take a millionth of a human brain and squeeze it into a special chamber the size of a mustard seed. Link it to a second chamber filled with cerebral spinal fluid and thread both of them with artificial blood vessels in order to create a microenvironment that makes the neurons and other brain cells behave as if they were in a living brain. Then surround the chambers with a battery of sensors that monitor how the cells respond when exposed to minute quantities of dietary toxins, disease organisms or new drugs under development.
Creating such a "microbrain bioreactor" is the challenge of a new $2.1 million research grant awarded to an interdisciplinary team of researchers from Vanderbilt University, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the Cleveland Clinic and Meharry Medical College. The award is one of 17 that are being issued by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences at the National Institutes of Health as part of a $70 million "Tissue Chip for Drug Testing" program. The five-year program is a cooperative effort on the part of NIH, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and the FDA.
The reason for microfabricating organ simulators containing small populations of human cells generally known as organ-on-a-chip technology is to bridge the formidable gaps that exist between the tools that researchers currently use to develop new drugs cell cultures and animal and human testing. These gaps not only add substantially to the difficulty and expense of developing new drugs but also contribute to the large number of experimental drugs that aren't effective or have unacceptable side effects when they are finally tested on people.
The brain is a particularly difficult target for drug development because it is surrounded by three barriers that protect it from molecular or cellular intruders. The most formidable of these is the blood-brain barrier (BBB). It surrounds the blood vessels that service the brain and allows the passage of compounds that the brain needs while simultaneously blocking the passage of other types of molecules, both foreign and domestic. The two other barriers protect the neurons from contaminants in the cerebral spinal fluid and protect the cerebral spinal fluid from contaminants in the blood. Not only do these barriers block potentially harmful molecules, neuroscientists have also discovered that they occasionally alter the chemistry of some of the compounds that they let through.
"Given the differences in cellular biology in the brains of rodents and humans, development of a brain model that contains neurons and all three barriers between blood, brain and cerebral spinal fluid, using entirely human cells, will represent a fundamental advance in and of itself," said John Wikswo, the Gordon A. Cain University Professor and director of the Vanderbilt Institute for Integrative Biosystems Research and Education (VIIBRE), who is orchestrating the multidisciplinary effort.
Wikswo and his collaborators argue that this new type of brain model should provide new insights into how the brain receives, modifies and is affected by drugs and disease agents. By replicating the forms of chemical communication and molecular trafficking that take place in the human brain, the device will allow them to test the effectiveness of various drug and nutritional therapies designed to prevent both acute injuries like strokes and chronic diseases like obesity and epilepsy, as well as uncovering the potential adverse effects of experimental drugs.
The basic microbrain bioreactor involves the integration of several technologies that have been developed and tested independently:
Damir Janigro, director of the Cerebrovascular Research Center at the Cleveland Clinic (CC) and his coworkers have developed a hollow-fiber model of the BBB that uses two of the three cell types that make up the human barrier. Tests of this model have shown that it accurately reproduces a number of the features of the real BBB. Janigro's team will adapt his model so that it will work with the new system, allowing for permeability and neurotoxicity studies of drugs. "There is huge need for predictive models of drug delivery to the brain. Neurological diseases are growing in our ageing population and drug development for Alzheimer's disease or other neurodegenerative diseases is of paramount importance for public health. The approach made possible by this multicenter grant will allow for a more rational drug design," he said.
Donald J. Alcendor, associate professor of microbiology and immunology at Meharry Medical College, will work with the CC and Vanderbilt teams to add the third cell type in the human BBB, called pericytes, to the microbrain bioreactor system, along with other cellular components that will allow the monitoring of molecular traffic for therapeutic analysis and cellular responses of the diseased brain. Alcendor discovered that Cytomegalovirus infection, which is the leading infectious cause of congenital disease in babies, spreads into the brain by infecting the pericytes. "The microbrain bioreactor should allow us to better understand how cell systems in the blood-brain barrier support and respond to Cytomegalovirus infection," he said.
A team headed by Donna Webb, assistant professor of biological sciences and Deyu Li, associate professor of mechanical engineering, will incorporate special microfluidic valves that they developed to study the interactions between neurons and the glial cells that accompany them in the brain. These simple valves allow the scientists to maintain different types of cells in individual chambers linked by microchannels that can be easily opened and closed. This capability allowed Webb's team to show that fluid from the glial cells is critical for neuron survival. "The new platform, with its unprecedented complexity, will greatly advance the lab-on-a-chip field," Li said.
The VIIBRE group has extensive experience instrumenting extremely small bioreactors. Associate Professor of Chemistry David Cliffel and his group have been building miniature electrochemical sensors that measure cellular metabolism by tracking the consumption of glucose and oxygen and the production of lactate and changes in acidity. Assistant Professor of Chemistry John McLean's group have been leading the effort to connect these small devices to sophisticated mass spectrometers that can identify in real time the presence of thousands of different proteins and other molecules that the cells produce. "It's an exciting challenge to apply real-time analytics to decipher the molecular communication that takes place in the brain," McLean said.
Once the microbrain bioreactor has been developed and tested, a team headed by Scott Daniels, assistant professor of pharmacology and director of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics at the Vanderbilt Center for Neurosciences Drug Discovery, will collaborate with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation group to validate the chip technology by testing it with a number of clinically approved and experimental compounds that vary in their ability to penetrate the central nervous system. Daniels noted that "the brain-on-a-chip technology could enable the accurate prediction of human brain penetration by small molecule therapeutics and therefore bridge a critical translational gap in the drug discovery arena."
Another group, headed by Associate Professor of Medicine Kevin Niswender, will be applying the new device to study the biology of stroke and the role that the brain plays in obesity. The system will allow his group to ask fundamental questions about how dietary macronutrients and inflammatory signals influence the various components present in the brain. Assistant Professor of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics Kate Ellacot will employ the system to understand how glial cells interact with neurons in the context of inflammation in obesity. In addition, the Cleveland Clinic has a large collection of samples from patients with these and other conditions. They will put cells from selected patients in the bioreactors and quantify how they respond to different treatments. "The ability to apply these precious samples entrusted to us by patients to a platform where we can literally measure hundreds of parameters is a dream come true," said team member BethAnn McLaughlin, assistant professor of neurology and member of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center. "We have enormous challenges in developing therapeutics to protect the brain from injury and this is a profound unmet need. Not a single drug has passed FDA approval to protect the brain from stroke, and we only have one that breaks up clots. We need to do better."

The internet is the fastest growing market in the world. There are over 2.4 million internet users in Ireland.?
With only 4.1 million people, that's over the half the population in your geographic area who could potential be reached through Internet Marketing. Just because you have a store front business doesn't mean you can afford to ignore this vast marketing potential. It is estimated more people use the internet to look for goods and services than use the phone book now. The web is going to continue to grow as a resource, particularly since internet capable phones are becoming more and more popular. A local business may rely on local customers. However, with the explosion of online products and services more and more people are turning to the internet to look for products and services. All of the major search engines include a business locator option. This means users can use the search engine to find all the business in their area which might sell the goods or services they are looking for. Then, with the click of a button they can see if that business is in their area and even locate the business on a map (with directions to it).
This service by the search engines has nothing to do with your website and everything to do with how your site is utilising Internet Marketing techniques. If the search engines do not know your business exists, they can't very well point customers to your location. Another aspect to Internet Marketing or SEO is how well you are placed on the search engines, how high your site is listed when people are searching for business of a similar sort. If your website does not place well with the various search engines, potential customers will be looking at other businesses first.?
Make sure your website is properly marketed and optimised to rank high on the major search engines. It isn't enough to just have a website. You have to market your website on the internet effectively. Using effective Internet Marketing can help even local business attract new customers. But in order to be effective you need to be savvy about how the internet works and how to get the best results from the major search engine searches. Internet users are potential customers, but only if your marketing to them.

QUESTION: How should I market my small business online? My husband and I just started a small retail business and are interested in marketing it online. Any suggestions as to the best way to start?
ANSWER: As an online store, you need to focus on two things: - get TARGETED traffic interested in what you sell (avoid traffic exchanges, traffic swarm and those poor quality traffic) - CONVERT those visitors into buyers You can use pay per click advertising in the search engines to reach audiences looking for your products. You can use Google Adwords http://www.google.com/adwords or Yahoo http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com Here are some shoestring marketing ideas that can help you get the visitors you need at the least cost possible: 1. Create the best content you can with the best products you can possibly offer. Your content is your best advertisement - if visitors love your content, then they will go back and spread the word to others. 2. Make it easy for users to recommend your site. Viral marketing is very important -- and easy to tap on the Web. But give your users the tools. Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends. If only 10 people go to your site, but these 10 people invite 10 more - that's additional traffic that you get for FREE! Recommend Site Scripts (various) http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/ Big Nose Bird Recommend this Site http://bignosebird.com/carchive/birdcast.shtml CGI Resource Index http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/ Hostscripts http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Site_Recommendation/index.html 3. Rank well in the search engines (organic search results, not the pay per click). SEs can be a big source of traffic. The key is to create the best content in your niche. If you have good content, other websites will gladly link to you and offer your site as a resource to their audience. Check the on-page factors and be sure to get linked from authority sites in your topic area. If you are going to read only one piece on search engine optimization, I suggest you read Brett Tabke of WebmasterWorld.com's "Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone: 26 steps to 15k a day." http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/2010.htm 4. Send out press releases. While outfits charge as much as 0 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News. http://www.prleap.com/sign_up.html http://i-newswire.com/ http://www.24-7pressrelease.com/ http://www.pressbox.co.uk/cgi-bin/links/add.cgi http://www.pr.com/press-releases http://www.prfree.com/ http://www.clickpress.com/releases/index.shtml http://www.theopenpress.com/ http://www.przoom.com/ http://www.prweb.com http://www.newswiretoday.com/ http://www.free-press-release.com/ 5. QUESTION: What is the best way to market your business online? I am working with a team to optimize me on google maps and I am going to be on yellowbook but I want to make sure I am spending my money wisely. And I don't understand fully how to optimize my web page either. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
ANSWER: The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is to first set up a website and publish its domain name on major search directories such as Google.com, Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?...... and MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these search directories to provide them with goods and services. In a sense, these search directories are a very large Internet Yellow Pages. Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage fail to contain "generic" keywords, then anyone using such "generic" queries will not be able to discover your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website, in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable. You may want to consider some simple algorithms which, when observed and committed in designing of a website with placement of various critical metatags that can surely achieve a high search engine presence and increase Internet traffic to your website. These metatag strategies work well with published webpages at Google and Yahoo. Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based website, make sure to fill-in the property entries such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the Internet audience and their incoming setup. For example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages take too long to load up and therefore analog users will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple question, "Who's my end user - is he on dialup or DSL?" And if you had to choose between these two users for maximum marketability, then select analog users since 80% of most resident users are still analog Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages is best for them. A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text, is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a graphic, they are not indexable by search robots. Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots are unable to properly classify textual material. Placement of Metatags: A ranking or search order does take place with Google and Yahoo and it begins with the "Title" metag which should consist of no more than 65 characters separated by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic terms, the goods and services, followed by a location from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state. The placement of a domain name which is not generic within the "Title" is not appropriate, unless your domain name is a major recognizable brand name. The second metatag is the "Description" which is usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which best describes one's goods and services. And the very last category - "Keywords" are also somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which is defined as the loading, and submission of repetitive words into a particular metatag category. "Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported to Google's spamreport.com can result in the elimination of your website from their search directory. Good luck!

ANSWER: You may want to consider a link partnership. If you can think of someone that your clients would be interested in getting information on , you would provide a link to their site in return they would provide a link to your site. Also, you may need to change or add what is called meta tags. You can get information on this on-line for free. The following site my be useful: http://www.submitexpress.com/metatag.html The more traffic you have to your site will move you up in the listings. QUESTION: Are there any free resources where I can I learn how to market my small business online? I am interested in learning how to implement various internet marketing strategies to help grow my business but have a limited budget and not enough time to sift through all the junk to find what really works. Does anyone now of a website that has comprehensive quality content and that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?
ANSWER: It just so happens that I found a website catering specifically to the marketing needs of small business owners like ourselves. Having spent countless hours researching online for educational resources and internet marketing techniques that I could implement myself, I was delighted to have stumbled upon this website. I was reluctant to watch the video that you have to watch before signing up, but I am very glad I did. I believe that they have an agreement with other internet marketing experts to host their content. So basically, it is a hub of all kinds of programs and courses, very well organized and easy to navigate, that you would normally have to pay for individually. Also, I was hesitant about the monthly membership fee, but because of their affiliate program, I am already making more money every month in residual commissions than what the membership fee is. To tell you the truth, I am more excited about the commissions I am making then actually implementing the strategies I am learning for my business. I ran some numbers and I figure I can make far more money in commissions than I can in my current business. Actually, now that I think about it, they also teach a way to hire a five person full time marketing team comprised of foreign employees that you hire, manage, and pay via the internet for a fraction of what it would cost you normally. They have access to the membership site so that they can learn and implement the strategies. And with the residual commissions that you can make, even this becomes free. So, by referring people to the site, you can not only have five full time employees dedicated to marketing your small business on the internet, but you can actually make much more money than what your salaries and membership costs are. http://www.small-businesses-marketing.com/education.php

ANSWER: One really good way is to advertise on the rear window of your vehicle. I did that for my decal business a while back and I got more than 30 visits the first day just for driving around my neighborhood. QUESTION: Semi-retired Man Looking to Start a small Online Business? Semi-Retired man looking for a small online marketing business to supplement current income would like help and advice to how this can be actioned please.
ANSWER: Well its a rather open ended question but I'll give it a go. If you wish to start a small online business you need to have a few things in place first. 1. An understanding of how marketing online works, its a very different set of rules compared to offline marketing. Though both share a common goal and many similar techniques an online marketer has to take into consideration a few more factors i.e. search engines, keywords.... 2. What do you plan to 'market' - Information products are a great way to earn money, especially if you already have 'more knowledge' than your target customers, and there are in fact customers to target. 3.Don't buy into some ones 'business in a bow' style systems until you know what you are doing. To often people see a pre-made business and think the work is done for them. The truth is without the right knowledge on what to do with said business you will get nothing in return. 4.Affiliate Marketing is a great way to get started as this removes the requirement to create a sell able product. This doesn't mean its easier it just has one less step to learn. Don;t spend any money on this until you have a clear idea of your plans. Knowledge is key to making a online business work (same with any business really). To many people (myself included) started out the wrong way and waisted time effort and money on systems far beyond there ability at the time.

ANSWER: Starting an online business is not at all a great deal!!! However making it profitable is the real challenge for any online marketer. If you want to make money online, that's great, but you need a system. You need to follow the strategies which are aleready tried n tested & are used by the champions who could make their fortune on the internet. Don't re-invent the wheel - don't make the mistake of wasting time and money in developing a product.Because you know nothing (I believe so) at the moment about internet marketing. So you must work with someone who can prove their system - be cautious and careful. You need to crawl first before you can walk or run - the best way to learn is to become an Affiliate Marketer. The main advantage with affiliate marketing is that -suppose the product you are promoting is not selling well due to some reason, you can drop that product & chose something else to sell.In short as an affiliate you are essentially a free-lance marketer - not bound by long-term contracts having a freedom to review / revise / remould your plans as per the demand in the market . (To see the changing demand in the market have a look at these http://buzzyahoo.notlong.com & http://buzz-google.notlong.com ) There are lots of people out there there -- people just like you -- who are enjoying the financial freedom that comes with successful affiliate marketing.

QUESTION: How do I advertise my business online? I'm a small business owner and don't have thousands of dollars a month for SEO or online marketing. What is the best way to advertise my business online without breaking the bank? Is there a service or company that can help me with local business listings? Thanks Reid
ANSWER: Google Local Business Listing is very easy to do. If you can run your business, you can do a business listing, most of the details required are business name, contact information, website address and a 200 character description. Include some of you product or service keywords in the description. When you submit, you will be asked to verify the listing information, with choice of telephone call or by post. Telephone call is the fastest. When the telephone call comes through, there will be an automated message with a 5 digit PIN number. You enter this into the box on the Google Local business centre, then click verify. NOTE: You will need to register for a googlemail account then submit your website / business details to Google's local business centre. http://www.google.com/local/add Additional Marketing for your Website using Directories and Website Links The next step is to get links to your website. This is one of the most important things that you can do to help your website with regard to internet marketing and search engine results. To do this you will need to list your website on as many websites and directories as possible. Directories Paid Listing Directory: for a listing fee your website is listed, often these are higher quality directories as only serious website owners and business's will pay to be listed. Free Directories: it can take a long time to get your website listed. As the service is free, there may be little or no control of the quality of websites being listed. DMOZ is the most important free directory, it can take quite some time to get listed, but worth the effort, follow submission guidelines very carefully. http://www.dmoz.org Show Me Another: this is a new 'Search Directory' that allows registered users to submit websites and in return for contributing you get a link to your own website for every website submitted. QUESTION: How do we market an Online Interactive Business? I will need details of what PR firms and marketing firms for a small business to contact. It is a new concept online interactive business between consumers retailers and manufacturers and needs to be marketed between all. The best answer will be compensated well if you contact me at surbhi1979@yahoo.com
ANSWER: You need to start with the two most basic things: 1. A website. You can hire a firm to do this for you but it will be expensive (4 figures). Or you can find a self-service where you can build one on your own. For example, Yahoo Sitebuilder (yes I know this is Yahoo Answers but Sitebuilder is the one I've used in the past). Also, Wordpress might work. Search for "website design", I just did and came up with hundreds of companies that could help you. If you decide to hire a company, make sure to get multiple bids and compare them. Tell them you probably want an HTML rather than a Flash site. 2. Search engine marketers. Search engine results are the lowest hanging fruit for generating leads and interest in your company/product. Search online for "SEM firms" or Search Engine Marketing. My credentials: almost a decade of online marketing.

QUESTION: Where can I find tips for online marketing strategies? Books, magazines, websites or any other source that can help me learn how to effectively market my business online.
ANSWER: The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is to first set up a website and publish its domain name on major search directories such as Google.com, Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?... and MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these search directories to provide them with goods and services. Here's an example of a very highly-placed website on Yahoo.com: Begin with the search query "pizza downtown los angeles." It will bring up some 1.4 million+ websites as results. Check out where "Pizza Next Door" is ranked. It's in the Top Five! Again, Pizza Next Door's high web presence was achieved by proper web design and placement of relevant metatags according to Yahoo's publication guidelines. Good luck!
QUESTION: How hard is it to come up w/ our own website for a small online business to market our own hand-made products?
ANSWER: Look into a content management system (CMS) such as http://radiantcms.org/ or http://www.joomla.org/ If that looks too complicated still, you can always just design each page by hand and link them together. This isn't difficult, just spend a little bit of time learning HTML at http://w3schools.com/html/default.asp it would also be good to style your HTML using CSS http://w3schools.com/css/default.asp This is simpler than a CMS, but it is also more difficult to maintain. If this still seems difficult, you can look into some of the applications designed to generate webpages, I haven't looked at these in a really long time, but try, http://tryit.adobe.com/us/cs4/dreamweaver/ These kinds will be the most brittle, though, because you can't style them, and you can't manually fix any screwups they make when generating the code.
