How to Stay Motivated to Succeed

3 hours ago, in Health & Beauty

Jump! All of us have ambitions and dreams, whether they are written down or held in the brain?s vault, we all want to do better or be better. People are looking to lose weight, quit smoking, get a better education, learn a musical instrument, start a business, advance in their career, be a better parent and the list can go on and on. You can probably rattle off half a dozen areas at this moment that you want to change in your life and the reasons why. So, how can we set and meet our goals?

All change starts through contemplation, and figuring out your motivations and what steps you need to take to achieve your goal. For example; why should I stop eating fast food? Well, if you stop your fast food habit you may lose weight, feel better, be healthier, and save money. However, you may also need to learn to cook and so that would be another goal. Once you have decided to work towards your goal you need to prepare by clarifying your goal and strategies. Write down how you are going to get from point ?A? to point ?B?? Once this is complete, you are ready to take action. You may stumble out of the gate but at least you are on your way.

Many people have a goal in mind but they never take the necessary steps to turn that goal into reality, and without action you will never achieve anything. You need to set your mind to it, write down the necessary steps and go! Since most goals worth achieving require time it is important to maintain your motivation and stay on target. Unfortunately, time isn?t always your best friend and you might be faced with temptations, doubt, discouragement and setbacks.

The diminishing of motivation can cause you to get stuck. Your goals are either put on hold or you start to feel guilty about the lack of progress. Instead of climbing out of the rut you end up decorating it. Choices that support the end desire are often hard to make and instead of taking steps forward, you start to slide backward.

It is important to keep an eye out for things that may rob your motivation and cause you to cut your journey short. Common motivation robbers are:

  • Low self-esteem will influence the way you think of yourself. Negative self-talk will prevent you from seeing the end results and you will likely give up. Instead practice positive self-talk and never forget you are good enough, strong enough and are capable of anything you set your mind to.
  • Exhaustion occurs when you overdo it and don?t get the physical or mental rest you need. If you get exhausted, things will begin to slip and you may begin to make poor choices that don?t line up with your goal, leading to discouragement.
  • Conflict at work or home is going to drain your energy. If you have a lot of conflict it will affect your attitude and motivation. Try to work out the conflict around you so it doesn?t consume you. Surround yourself with positive people and, if possible, people trying to achieve the same goal.
  • Lack of self-discipline will be your worst enemy. You need to be able to say ?no? when you feel at your weakest. The more you exercise self-discipline the stronger it will become.

It is important to plan for challenges because it isn?t a question of if they will arise but when. Know the reasons why you want to meet a particular goal and strengthen your drive by making choices that will get you there. It isn?t always easy but you know the payoff will be worth it if you stick to your guns. Don?t let negative self-talk or other people?s negativity get in your way of what you are capable of achieving.
